Why did the hours for Dinand Library change?

The Library’s administration considered several factors when making this decision.  A review of the building usage statistics showed that very few students were using the building during the overnight and early-morning hours. Based on the data gathered over a multi-year period, the Library began to consider what might be the most responsible way to respond to the issues raised as a result of the data.

This change to our schedule allows us to more efficiently manage resources - lighting, heating, staffing, etc. Also, when there are so few individuals in such a large library during these late hours, it does create a safety concern. The safety of our students is always our first concern.

For students who wish to find a study space during the times that Dinand is closed, the O’Kane computer lab (O’Kane B-32) is available for use 24 hours.  Students will need to swipe their ID card to access the computer lab. This lab is not open to the public.

Director of Library Services, Dr. Mark Shelton, will hold an open-forum for all students who wish to discuss Dinand’s new hours.  The forum will be held Wednesday, September 5th, from 6-7:30 pm in the Levis Browsing Room.
